My Mom has been on a mission the last couple years to get another dog. She walks dogs at the local SPCA multiple times a week, so keeps her eyes peeled for potential dogs to adopt. Up until now, Dan has resisted, but I guess she finally wore him down and he caved.

Two weeks ago a batch of basset puppies came in and she talked Dan into letting them “foster” one for two weeks. As if they were really going to return a cute puppy after two weeks. I went with her to pick one out and we eventually picked Pete because he was just like Charlie… totally laid back and could really care less about playing with his siblings or trying to get attention from potential parents. He totally white-men-can’t-jump-ed us… not long after arriving at their house, he was out of his shell. And continues to liven up each passing day. I really enjoy when he barks at the air.

I went out again last weekend to see the little guy and take some pictures with The Rebel. These are some favorites…

I think the look on Charlie’s face says it all, “First you bring that little rat around all the time and now a puppy?”.

Accidental IMing

This happens to everyone at some point or another… you’re at your desk, carrying on multiple IM conversations and you accidentally send the wrong message to the wrong person. Today, I was talking to a co-worker about my Urban Dictionary word-of-the-day, while carrying on a conversation with Amy about UT football tickets.

Today’s word is “mouse arrest”. Which means getting grounded from the family computer. I don’t know if it’s because it’s Friday or what, but I thought it was funny. After sharing the word and definition with my coworker, I began to type the sample phrase they include, but of course, I sent it to Amy accidentally. Whoops.

Me: Do you know what face value are for them in that section?

Amy: I think it is $75

Me: ok, so those you found are probably FV

Amy: the UT box office has $75 as the price for all tix for that game
Stub Hub has some for $65-68
not much of a difference

Me: I’d say go ahead and get those and I’ll just work on getting the extra ticket
from our family friend… unless you can wait a week or two.

I still really enjoyed it

Totally a random thing to IM and I’m just glad it went to Amy and not someone else who’d I’d feel uncormfortable discussing my “pornfolio” with.

But, I’ve had Wilson Phillips stuck in my head for almost 24 hours now after seeing Bridesmaids. It was in my head all night while I slept. I don’t really know what else to do besides download it and embrace it. It can be my CPA-hole theme song for the next 5 days. So, yeah, that’s what I’m gonna do.

Summer breeze (does not) make me feel fine

It is only the 7th of June and I seriously am not sure I’ll make it through August. I’m hot all the time. I walk two blocks to the post office at 8pm and start sweating. I hard boil some eggs on the stove and I’ve got a hot flash the rest of the night. Every single fan in my apartment is on full speed. My thermostat is set on 60 and the actual temp is 80 (can’t wait for that electric bill). I can’t sit on the coach with a laptop or Rocky on my lap for more than 5 minutes without overheating. In the words of Bananarama, it’s going to be a cruel, cruel summer.

Last night was really the peak of my uncomfortableness. I went to bed on time. But, I was hot. And as of late, my ceiling fan has started making this clink-clink-clink noise that has no rhythm. Sometimes, it’s clink……clinkclink..clink……….. clinkclinkclink. Other times, it’s clinkCLINKCLINK…. clink ……………………………………………………………………………………… (just when I think it might stop)…clink. I think if it had a rhythm I could deal with it and still fall asleep. But, the randomness of the clinks keeps me awake. For fear of how unimaginably hot I’d be without the fan, I kept it on. After about 30 minutes of not falling asleep, I decided to turn the TV on to see if that background noise could trump the clinking noise. Nope. Then I decided to go balls to the wall and just turn the fan off. After another 30 minutes of not falling asleep, I couldn’t take it anymore. I dug up the only portable fan I have, which is about the size of a kitchen clock, and I stuck it on my nightstand 6 inches from my face. I finally got comfortable, but the loudness of that fan kept me wrestling all night. Of course, when my alarm goes off at 5:30 this morning, my apartment feels like a meat locker.

As a side note, I think I’m done running outside until Fall. I keep trying but can only go about 30 minutes. And I don’t enjoy it. So, I went to the gym this morning. I came back and was still hot, so of course I began overheating again when I was cookin’ my breakfast. I grabbed the baby fan from my bedroom and took it into the kitchen with me while I cooked. I then took it into the living room with me while I ate, and then to the bathroom while I got ready. Totally inefficient. I’m planning to drop about 100 bones tonight at Target on some sweet new fans. That seems like a lot of money, but this is a matter of survival.

P.S. I realize heat exhaustion is a rather lame comeback blog post. We all gotta start somewhere.

The highlight of my day came when I got home this evening and found a package at my front door. My little mimi sent me some good luck essentials for my test on Saturday!

Favorites include the Hello Kitty cleansing wipes and the striped socks. She knows me well!

I’ll note that it took all of two seconds for me to rip open the bag of M&M’s. No self control whatsoever.

It’s really a shame I didn’t stay up to catch the end of the Oscars last night. My two best actor/actress picks won. And Avatar did not win best picture. Jam.

Also, I knew I always liked Sandra Bullock for a reason. Last night during her Barbara Wa Wa interview, she was asked why she didn’t get married until she was 40. Her response, “I hadn’t met anyone that was bigger than me”. Totally respect that.

Lastly, the John Hughes tribute was awesome. He will always be my favorite director. Hey hey hey hey, ooooooooooooo-ohh.

If someone, who is a diehard NASCAR fan, compliments you on the shirt you are wearing, can you really take it as a compliment? It happened to me this morning, and while I appreciate the kind gesture, I’m still not sure if i’m OK with it.

And no, I don’t wear wife beaters to work. Or t-shirts with the sleeves cut off.

I only wear those bad boys when I workout.
