Well, maybe not.

Yesterday, I did about a million and a half dead lifts at the gym, so naturally today my hamstrings and lower back were pretty sore.  For lunch, we braved the rain and went to Potbelly’s for a sandwich and work rant.  The sandwich was delicious.  The rant was inspiring. Once we arrived back at the office, we were getting off the elevator and something came over me.  I was just so excited (not) to be back at the office that I did one of my routine air kicks.

Tight hammy + air kick = Not a good idea

I think I really pulled something.  Now as I walk around I look like I have a gimp.  I have to shift my right hip forward when I step with that leg, only because I can’t extend it properly.  And so I look goofy.

So, I’m afraid there will be no more free kicks for the day.  Probably the week, too.  Sorry, sports fans.

So, last night right before bedtime I was walking into my room.  I noticed that Rocky was in the corner and that he seemed to be restrained to just the corner.  Normally, hyperactive boy himself is running from the bed to the hall to the chair to the bed and so on and so forth.  I peered around the corner and asked what he was doing.  Apparently, he had been running around as usual and accidentally ran into the strap of my bra that was hanging to dry on the closet door nob.  It was wrapped around his neck like a neuse.  Whether it was an accident or not, I don’t know.  I always thought he was happy.  I treat him well, buy him food, take him on walks.  To me there was no evidence that he was ready to take his own life.

Now, this next part might border on abuse, but I sat down and just watched him.  It was like that Saturday Night Live skit with Mike Myers where he is a boy, leashed to the play scape and he keeps trying to run away but gets yanked back.  I would call for Rocky and he would try to run towards me but would get pulled back to the closet door that kept opening when he tried to run.  It was entertaining and I laughed.  He did not.  I decided to take some pictures to document the incident.  Poor guy does look a little depressed… (sorry for exposing my bra on the Internet)…

On a positive note, I got a free lunch yesterday at the Kimball in Fort Worth, compliments of mi madre.  She was up with a couple other ladies she works with to tour the museums.  What a tough day at the office!  The soup I had was amazing… lentils, quinoa, ham, rice in a broth.  It was delicious!

Well, last weekend was pretty dang fun.  From the birthday dinner, to a Texas victory to the wedding, there was never a dull moment.  It’s tough to be in the office today, especially when most people I know have today off.  Archon clearly doesn’t give a flip that in 1942 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.  Oh well, I’ve got NYC coming in less than a month.  Point Emily.

Before dinner on Friday night, we got to do a little shopping around at the Domain.  I managed to get two dresses and two shirts for a mere $50 bucks.  Yahtzee!  Dinner was delicious and we all had a great time.  Halle even ate a little sushi.  Well, maybe just the rice.  You can’t see them here, but she did wear her red ruby slippers for her Auntie Em…

Saturday, my Mom and I watched the TX/OUgame.  Dan decided to skip the wedding (which he will probably pay for at Thanksgiving) and go to the game.  I ran about 6 miles on the treadmill watching the first half.  I get so into Texas football while running and this time was no exeption… I nearly fell off the treadmill a couple of times.  The last quarter was quite nerve racking, as we sat watching and thinking, “are they really gonna pull this off”???  And they did!  Point Longhorns.

Mom and I then drove down to San Antonio to meet up with Kelley to go to Sarah and Branden’s wedding.  We stayed at the Hyatt Place… a nice new hotel that’s extremely reasonable.  There was a 42″ flat screen in the room.  What what?  The wedding was outside at the Witte Museum.  Then we went inside for the dinner and the reception.  I dang near broke my perfect record of not crying at weddings.  Sarah and Branden wrote their own vows and I don’t know if it was the fact that I’ve known Sarah since I was like 6 or what, but the eyes definitely watered and I had chills all over.  No tears managed to stream down my cheek, but it sure was close.  I don’t think I’ve known anyone who has a bigger heart or exemplifies love in everything they do quite like Sarah.  It was so fun to see them celebrate their love and of course see Sue and Sarah manage to still stress out over all the details of the wedding.  We wouldn’t have had it any other way!  Everyone had a great time and the cake was delicious… as was the mashed potato bar! I love when people are original at weddings and incorporate their favorite things.  Like Christen’s chili dog bar at the end of their reception.  I guess the good thing about going to a bazillion weddings is I can get ideas for myself.  And I should have a lot racked up by 2020 when I get married.  Point Emily.

Once the ceremony was over, the night only got more interesting.  I think I might need a new blog post to summarize all that jazz.  Stay tuned for pics from the wedding.  I’m waiting on Kelley to send them my way.

I’ve been meaning to sum up the birthweek (because celebrating wasn’t contained to just one day.. ie my birthday was on a Tuesday, my least favorite day of the week*) but this week has been busy and I’ve yet to receive any photos from last weekend (ahem).  This year, the gathering of friends birthday celebration was a bit different than years past.  There was no karaoke, no singing on stage with a band, no Cher… things were definitely a bit tamer.  However, I think I managed to last longer that night than the few years prior.  Meaning, my arm never rested unknowingly in a puddle of spilt beer and I never attempted to lean back on a large speaker that wasn’t there.  Therefore, there was no evidence to signal to my friends that it was time. to. go. home.  Is this a victory?  I’m not sure.

We had a wonderful dinner at Cafe Madrid.  Darn near perfect attendance, too!  I got to enjoy tapas, wine, multiple Elvis bags, a food magazine subscription, an Olive Garden gift card, a book about going #2, a succulent butt cake and some baked goods.  What more could you ask for??  After dinner we skipped over to a nearby joint for a drink.  But, that was all she wrote.  And I only suffered a minor headache the next day.

Tuesday, the actual day, was filled with birthday phone calls, texts, Facebook messages and emails.  Got a free La Madeline lunch compliments of the boss.  Also got a free Happy Hour at Republic compliments of Smalls.  I got home to watch the debate, but my semi-buzzed state was having none of that.  I just couldn’t get into it.  Instead I found that The Graduate was on, and happily settled in on that.  Love, love, love that movie AND the music… “hello darkness, my old friend…”.  Nothing beats a little S&G, especially in the Fall.

The beat continues to go on tonight as I am heading to A-town to celebrate with the family.  Sushi and a brownie sundae at Kona Grill (yes, please!).  Maybe a glass of wine as well.  After tonight, my ”Welcome to 27″ howdy week is officially over.  But, there will be one more reason to Mazel Tov this weekend… Sarah and Branden are getting hitched.  And that will be a fun occasion, let me tell you.  Although… last time I went to San Antonio for a wedding I came back to an unpleasant surprise and a very empty apartment.  Good thing Dan and Rocky are holding down the fort this weekend, cause…

This is my house.  I have to defend it.

*Tuesday is the least exciting day of the week in my opinion.  Most would argue that Monday is the roughest, but in my opinion Monday isn’t too bad.  Everyone has a case of the Mondies, so you sorta have an excuse for not working too hard.  Plus you’re still reeling off the weekend.  Tuesday, however, has no excuse for slacking off.  And the realization that you still have 3 days left in the work week is a bit intimidating.

Tonight we are going out to celebrate my upcoming birthday.  The last few birthdays have turned into a karaoke extravaganza.  With some entertaining stories, might I add.  Now that Cher has retired, I’m not sure what will happen after dinner.  Which is at Cafe Madrid.  Tapas and wine.  Its pretty much the only thing getting me through this loooooooooooong day at work.  I was pretty depressed when the Olive Garden said they were completely book until 2010, but after a couple weeks I’ve made peace with it.

Here’s few snapshots of my favorite bday moments over the last couple years…

The Graphic Tea Party
…would not have been complete without the Roses dance

or my Save Sundance Square campaign…

Uptown Bar Karaoke

…and the best rendition of “Hard Candy Christmas

…and the candy cigarettes, compliments of MJ.  Who knew Suz was a chain smoker?

a classic reaction… most likely either after when I fell or said into the mic, “I run 6 miles a day and can’t keep up with this $hit” after failing miserably to keep up with “Rapper’s Delight”

Karaoke with Cher

Jello shots in the parking lot are the best pre-karaoke snack…

THUNDER BOLTS AND LIGHTENING, VERY VERY FRIGHTENING…the best karaoke performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” ever.

We’ll see what tonight brings…

You don’t tug on Superman’s cape,
You don’t spit into the wind,
You don’t pull the mask off the ole Lone Ranger,
And you don’t mess around with Em…

Sorry, Jim… I think the lyrics sound better with my name.

Its October!  My favorite month!

I could not be more excited that it is October.  If you couldn’t tell.  Its going to be a busy month and I am worried that it will fly by.  Here are all the wonderful things happening this month:

My birthday dinner at Cafe Madrid
Dad and ESM are visiting overnight
My birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sarah and Branden’s wedding in San Antonio
Erin and Daniel’s couples shower
NKOTB (are you tough enough?)
Homecoming (assume we are going to this)
Halloween (aka candy and costumes)

And if that isn’t enough, the weather is absolutely perfect.  I am tempted to take a non-smoker’s smoke break this afternoon and go for a walk.  Going to lunch I cruised with my windows down and it was such a mood lifter.  It’s unfortunate that a) I work indoors and b) our office windows don’t roll down like the ones in a car do.

More reasons to love this month: college football, the start of fall foliage, TV shows are in full swing, and when the month is over its not depressing.  Because Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner.  So is a trip to NYC for this one.

One of my favorite songs just came on a few minutes ago, which inspired me to take a break and blog.  Because I love this song, especially in the Fall.  Its called “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.  If you have any music taste you should check it out.  Its a bit old school.

Feliz Octubre!

As I walked into Bible study tonight, I noticed a familiar scene.  A bunch of Post It’s arranged to make out my initials.  I immediately commented, “hey, those are my initials!”.  No one seemed to really care.  But, I was moved.  It was also a bit eerie, given the fact that I blogged about this exact same scene like two weeks ago.  It was sorta like seeing RedRum written on the bathroom mirror in The Shining.

Turns out, Laurie read that blog post (proof that people besides my parents actually read this!!) and recreated my artwork as a nice gesture.  I’m not sure if her intention was to trip me out or not, but she tripped me out.  It was awesome.  Thanks be to my little disciple, Suzanita, for spreading the good word of E.C.
